Kirsty brings more than 20 years of corporate experience in financial and medical underwriting, specialising in life, health and disability insurance. Starting her career as a Customer Services Officer with Sovereign Assurance, she worked her way through a range of specialised and leadership roles to become a highly respected underwriter.
Her strong analytical background and ability to assess risk from multiple angles have transitioned naturally into her role at Hastie Mortgages, where she is now a fully qualified adviser. Kirsty focuses on refix management, loan writing and office management, combining technical expertise with a calm, practical approach.
For Kirsty, what truly sets a mortgage adviser apart comes down to communication and customer service. She believes great advice is built on trust, doing the right thing, and taking the time to genuinely understand people — values she shares closely with Campbell, which she says probably explains why they’ve been happily married for so long.
Kirsty’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. She has faced both the long and emotional process of unsuccessfully trying to start a family, as well as serious spinal issues that resulted in multiple surgeries after suddenly losing the ability to walk. These experiences strengthened her resilience, persistence, and determination — qualities that now shape both her personal and professional life.
At home in Orewa, Kirsty enjoys sewing, knitting, gardening, and cooking. She also makes quilts for the neonatal intensive care unit, combining creativity with her passion for helping others. The Hastie’s are proudly a cat family, with Daisy firmly claiming Kirsty as her human, while Maggie belongs to Campbell.
Kirsty and Cam love travelling around New Zealand and have completed favourites including the Milford Track, Hollyford Track and the Alps to Ocean cycle trail. Although born in Dunedin and raised in Auckland from the age of seven, Kirsty has always felt a special connection to Central Otago.
Kirsty’s advice to clients is simple:
“Plan and prepare and start early. Things can take longer than expected, and lending criteria can change. The more boxes you can tick off ahead of time, the faster and smoother your journey towards your financial goals will be.”
